A Sustainable Future

Working for a Sustainable Tomorrow, Today

Blossman’s commitment to a sustainable future began in 1951. We knew the impact of providing a cleaner energy source for people’s homes and businesses would ultimately create a healthier future for their children’s children. Still today, we continue to fulfill that promise as a low-carbon future is something we can all agree is good for our planet.

Because of propane’s low-carbon, high-energy output, it’s a perfect fuel for residential and commercial applications such as vehicle fleets, agriculture and industrial work, and landscape management, just to name a few. In fact, propane’s low-carbon intensity is why it is an approved clean alternative fuel under the Clean Air Act of 1990.

At Work or Home, Propane is Leading A Clean Energy Revolution

From America’s farms and school buses to customer’s homes and businesses, propane is reducing emissions and saving users money. No matter how you use it, propane offers unique advantages other energy sources can’t deliver. Anywhere you live or work, clean-burning propane is there.

Renewable Propane: Innovations Aren’t Slowing Down

Propane is helping clean up businesses and communities across the nation, and will only get cleaner as we look to a future with renewable propane for on- and off-road applications. It has all the benefits of conventional propane: clean, affordable, and with an abundant supply on the horizon. But because it’s produced from renewable, raw materials, renewable propane is even cleaner and far cleaner than other energy sources.

Renewable propane is a byproduct of the renewable diesel and jet fuel production process, which converts plant and vegetable oils, waste greases, and animal fat into fuel. It delivers a high-energy conversion so BTU’s aren’t wasted, and is price competitive. At the point of combustion, renewable propane is carbon neutral, meaning no new carbon is added to the atmosphere when renewable propane is burned. Renewable propane is already available in states that have implemented stricter low carbon standards.

A Path to Zero Net Energy

Using propane appliances, you can significantly lower a home’s energy consumption, making it easier to achieve Zero Net Energy (ZNE) goals and deliver premium performance to homeowners. It’s why propane should be a part of every builder’s ZNE strategy. In order to measure ZNE progress in your home, the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index is used. It measures efficiency – the lower the score, the better. See how propane can help you lower your HERS score to achieve ZNE.

3 WAYS TO LOWER YOUR HERS SCORE

Focus on the building’s envelope:

  1. Insulation quality
  2. Insulation quantity
  3. Air sealing
  4. Window performance
  5. House orientation

Include high-efficiency propane appliances:

  1. Propane furnace
  2. Propane water heating
  3. Propane cooking
  4. Propane fireplace
  5. Propane clothes dryer

Trim other energy use:

  1. Energy Star appliances
  2. LED lighting
  3. Energy monitoring devices

Proven Results

Using propane and other strategies including solar cells, this home earns $343 annually selling excess energy.

  • 1,912 square feet
  • Super insulated
  • R-5 triple-pane windows
  • 96% efficient propane tankless water heater
  • HERS without solar: 34
  • HERS with solar: -21

Other Propane Benefits

Propane is not only energy efficient, it lowers first costs and emissions. It is also highly effective in any area of the country for a variety of temperatures.
