Blossman Propane Gas, Appliance and Service donates $50,000 to Alabama's LIHEAP

Blossman Propane Gas, Appliance and Service based in Ocean Springs, Miss. has donated $50,000 to the State of Alabama’s Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

In total, Blossman Gas contributed $200,000 to four states experiencing the greatest heating shortages.

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The Department of Economic and Community Affairs contracts with community action agencies and local nonprofit agencies to deliver LIHEAP to over 137,600 low-income households throughout the state.

The objectives of LIHEAP are to help low-income families meet the costs of home energy, defined as heating and cooling of residences, and to increase their energy self-sufficiency and reduce their vulnerability resulting from energy needs.

“Due to higher energy costs, which have been compounded by severe propane supply challenges in some parts of the U.S., we understand that there are many people in Alabama who are suffering with the cold weather conditions,” said Stuart Weidie, president and CEO of Blossman Gas. "We are hearing about broken heaters, job cut backs and paychecks that don’t cover heating costs that may be running unusually high at this time of year. We are hoping this contribution will help families who are struggling with the cost of heating this year. Through this donation to LIHEAP we hope to alleviate potential life-threatening energy-related emergencies or needed repairs during this prolonged cold snap.”

Blossman Gas is a family and employee-owned company based on the philosophy of quality customer service. The company, along with each of its 70 stores, takes pride in community philanthropy and involvement.
